Matthew Schultz Wins Two State Championship Titles

Freshman Matthew Schultz won two individual state championships for shot put & 400m.  In addition to the two titles, Schultz also won the overall wheelchair team championship and took 3rd in the 100m and 200m.

“The coaching staff is extremely proud of everything that Matthew was able to accomplish this year. His progress throughout the course of the year was exceptional,” coach Nolting shared. “His racing consistently improved, and when it matter the most, he was able to deliver the clutch performances needed to bring home the overall team championship. Throwing shot put was new for Matthew this year and he excelled at it. He best throw from the season is the 5th best wheelchair mark in state history. He went out and won two individual events and the entire team championship.”

“What a fantastic accomplishment for a freshman and something Matthew and I are both very hungry to build on in the future,” said coach Nolting.

Schultz was one of 10 wheelchair athletes competing at the 2017 state track meet — seven boys and three girls — which is the highest participation in the state’s history after nine went a year ago.
