17 Southeast Polk students were chosen to attend the 2016 National Council on Youth Leadership (NCYL) seminar on September 18 & 19 at Drake University. These student leaders were among 250 from 25 area high schools who were selected for their leadership qualities and academic record. On September 13, 2016, officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 62nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Ryan Johnson, a Senior at Southeast Polk, was named as a semifinalist.
