Elementary Curriculum

Our early literacy instruction, rooted in the science of reading, ensures every child develops the skills necessary for lifelong success. Through explicit instruction in phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, students build strong foundations for academic achievement.

Our teachers, trained in evidence-based practices and receive ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of literacy education. Regular progress monitoring allows us to tailor instruction to meet each child’s unique needs.

 Students develop foundational computer science skills through hands-on activities in coding, robotics, and digital literacy. These experiences promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.

We are committed to fostering a deep appreciation for mathematics and its practical applications in students’ everyday lives. Our teachers collaborate closely to ensure that all students develop a solid understanding of mathematical concepts in order to reach their full potential. The Iowa Academic Standards for Mathematics guide both teachers and students through a comprehensive approach to mathematical learning, outlining the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies students should acquire. Our approach to math instruction emphasizes a balanced focus on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application. Southeast Polk’s library program fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of reading. Through a strong curriculum in informational and digital literacy, students develop skills to navigate and engage with the world of knowledge.
