Highlights from the December 12, 2019, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

  • The Board of Education approved the next meeting dates
    • January 9, 2020 – board meeting
    • January 23, 2020 – board meeting
    • January 30, 2020 – building visit @ Altoona Elementary 
  • The Board approved the maximum Modified Supplemental Amount included in the SBRC Application for increased enrollment and LEP instruction beyond 5 years in the amounts of $672,864 and $68,112, respectively. This is a total of $740,976 in the requested modified supplemental amount.
  • The board set a public hearing for January 9, 2020, to discuss the school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • The board approved the purchase of four regular 77 passenger school buses (without A/C) and three special needs equipped buses from Truck Center Companies for a total of $784,889.


  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, provided his monthly update. 
  • The Board discussed its legislative advocacy agenda for the 2020 session. 
  • The board discussed the IASB Conference and UEN Banquet.
  • Amber Ray, Controller, presented the monthly financials.
  • Dr. JoEllen Latham, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, shared information on dropout prevention. 
  • Steve Stotts, Calendar Committee Chair, shared an update on the progress of finalizing the 2020-2021 school calendar.
