Highlights from the January 9, 2020, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • The Board of Education approved the 2020-2021 school calendar.
  • The Board approved the program plans for Drop-Out Prevention and At-Risk for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • The board set a public hearing for January 9, 2020, to discuss the school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • The Board approved the maximum modified supplemental amount of $2,309,596 for Drop-Out Prevention and At-Risk programming for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • The Board accepted the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the independent auditor’s report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019.

Presentations/Discussions:

  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, shared information on ESSA Accountability. The Iowa Department of Education will be launching a new website for Iowa School Performance Profiles. 
  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, provided an update regarding the SEP district Office temporarily relocating.  This action is targeted for some time in February.
  • Joseph Horton, Associate Superintendent, shared information with the board on a staffing plan amendment. 
  • Joseph Horton, Associate Superintendent, shared information on substitute teacher compensation. 
  • Joseph Horton, Associate Superintendent, discussed a proposal in regards to the SEPHS teacher academy that he plans to present to the Education Foundation.
