Highlights from the July 16, 2020, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • The Board approved the next Board meeting dates of August 6, 2020, and August 20, 2020. 
  • The Board approved the resolution ordering the election on the issuance of $92,000,000 General Obligation School Bonds.
  • The Board approved to renew the photography services agreement with Sherrylynn Photography for another year beginning August 1, 2020, through July 31, 2021.
  • The Board approved the agreement with Jostens Pix to provide school pictures and yearbook services for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • The Board established a one-year agreement with Athletico Physical Therapy as the District’s third-party athletic training service provider from August 1, 2020, through July 31, 2021.
  • The Board approved Administration’s top four legislative priorities for the 2021 legislative session.

Presentations/Discussions:

  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Superintendent, provided his monthly update highlighting:
    • 2020 graduation commencement on July 18
    • Petition signatures appreciation
    • Altoona Chamber of Commerce Annual Back to School Breakfast
  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Superintendent, provided a debriefing of the IASB COVID Conference
  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Superintendent, and Southeast Polk Cabinet Members presented the Southeast Polk Return to Learn Plan and addressed questions submitted by the community and the Board
  • Gary Haines, Director of Buildings and Grounds, provided an update on the roof, security, and asphalt projects.
