Highlights from the March 8, 2018 Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

  • Board approved the purchase of three regular school buses with air conditioning from International Hoglund totaling $304,400 and one special needs equipped bus with air conditioning from Thomas Bus Sales totaling $107,212. The Board also approved the purchase of two vans for student transportation from Stivers Ford Lincoln totaling $53,540.
  • Board approved the agreement with RDG Planning & Design as the architect firm to manage the High School Parking Lot Expansion Project.
  • Board approved the agreement with Modus Engineering as the engineer firm to manage the LED Lighting Project for the elementary schools.


  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, shared his monthly update.
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, shared the monthly financial report.
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, continued the discussion with the Board regarding the budget for fiscal year 2019.
  • Gary Haines, Director of Building and Grounds, provided an update on the Building and Grounds department and current projects.
  • Tracy Dawson, SEP Cares Treasurer, provided an update on the SEP Cares Program.
  • JoEllen Latham, Director of Curriculum, gave a review of the February 16 professional development day and an update on plans for district professional learning on April 9.
