Highlights from the May 16, 2019 Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals:

  • The board approved the next meeting date for June 13, 2019.
  • The board held a public hearing for consideration of the permanent easement for the City of Altoona on District property located at 3200 1st Avenue S., Altoona.
  • The board approved the permanent trail easement for the City of Altoona.
  • The board held a public hearing for consideration of the permanent easement for the City of Pleasant Hill on District property located at 6770 NE Rising Sun Drive, Pleasant Hill.
  • The board approved the permanent sewer and sanitation easement for the City of Pleasant Hill.
  • The board held a public hearing for consideration of the temporary construction easement for the City of Pleasant Hill on District property located at 6770 NE Rising Sun Drive, Pleasant Hill.
  • The board approved the temporary roadway construction easement for the City of Pleasant Hill.
  • The board held the public hearing for the FY2019 budget amendment.
  • The board approved the second and final budget amendment for fiscal year 2019.
  • The board approved the bid for Security Enhancements to Elementary Entrances. Estes Construction was awarded the Security Enhancements to Elementary Entrances project.
  • The board approved the 28E Agreement with the City of Altoona for the use of specific fiber optic channels along the 8th Street corridor.
  • The board approved the renewal of the SEPEA agreement with an expiration date of August 14, 2022.

Presentations/Discussions:

  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, provided his monthly updated. He highlighted several recent events including Dollars for Scholars, The Iowa Tech Expo (held at SEP for 31 consecutive years) and Senior SCIP day. Dr. Halupnik recognized and thanked Southeast Polk senior and class president, Ryan Strickland, for his participation in the 2018-2019 School Board meetings.  
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, provided a monthly financial report. Click here for details.
  • Mattia Hansen, Community Relations Coordinator, provided the 2019-2020 Handbook changes.
  • Amy A’Hearn, Director of Food & Nutrition Services, provided an update for the nutrition department.
