Highlights from the May 21, 2020, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • The Board approved the corrected next Board Meeting date to June 11, 2020. 
  • The Board approved Policy 503-041R Student Conduct Code Regulation. 
  • The Board approved the salaries/wages increase of 2% to Administrators and Other Professional Staff for fiscal year 2021.
  • The Board approved the FY21 board meeting schedule.
  • The Board held the public hearing for the fiscal year 2020 budget amendment.
  • The Board approved the second and final budget amendment for fiscal year 2020.

Presentations/Discussions:

  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Superintendent, provided his monthly update highlighting
    • Five Southeast Polk Schools being recognized as  PLTW Distinguished Schools
    •  Dollars for Scholars distributing $260,000 in scholarships and awarding at least 1 scholarship to every applicant
    • 213,000 Grab and Go meals have been distributed to date
    • The CARES Act Stimulus Check has received
    • Grant money from Facebook has been received.
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, provided his April financial update.
  • Kevin Baccam,  Executive Director of Business Services, provided an update on the 2020-2021 student fee changes. 
  • Jeannie Christenson, Interim Communications Coordinator, presented suggested changes to the 2020-2021 Student Handbooks.
  • Jo Ellen Latham, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, provided an update/presentation on Southeast Polk’s Continuous Learning and Return to Learn Plans. 
  • Steve Pettit, High School Principal, provided an update on the currently scheduled High School Graduation Events.
