Highlights from the November 19, 2020, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • The Board approved the consent agenda items.
  • The Board approved Brett Handy as the 2020-2021 Board President and Chad Crabb as the 2020-2021 Vice President. Both officers were sworn into office. 
  • The Board approved the next meeting date of December 17, 2020. This date was discussed later in the meeting due to the Return to Learn plan and may be moved to earlier in December.  The new date is Dec. 8, 2020.
  • The Board approved Chad Crabb, Vice President of the Board, to be appointed to the Southeast Polk District Advisory Committee.
  • The Board approved the 2021-2022 school calendar.
  • The Board approved to offer early retirement benefits to classified and certified employees who qualify and offer the early bird incentive for those classified and certified employees who submit all completed paperwork on or before January 4, 2021.
  • The Board approved the list of early graduates.
  • The Board approved the 2021-2022 Registration Guide as submitted.
  • The Board approved the Resolution Appointing Paying Agent, Bond Registrar, and Transfer Agent, Approving the Paying Agent, Bond Registrar and Transfer Agent Agreement, and Authorizing the Execution of Same, approve the Tax Exemption Certificate, approve the Continuing Disclosure Certificate, and approve the Resolution Authorizing the Issuance of Bonds.
  • The Board approved the maximum Modified Supplemental Amount included in the SBRC Application for ELL instruction beyond 5 years.
  • The Board approved the maximum Modified Supplemental Amount included in the SBRC Application for open-enrolled out students not previously reported.
  • The Board approved the Return to Learn Plan to move all grade levels to remote learning beginning on Monday, November 30th through Friday, December 11th. A waiver will be submitted to the Iowa Department of Education to seek approval for a temporary online learning model from 11/30 through 12/11.

  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, provided a Financial Update for FY2020.
  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Superintendent, provided his update.
  • Ric Powell, Board Member, provided a debriefing of the IASB/UEN Annual Meeting.
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, provided his Monthly Financial Update
  • Joseph Horton, Assistant Superintendent, provided a report on Substitute Teacher Assignments – 2nd Semester.
