Highlights from the September 19, 2019, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • The board approved the upcoming October board meetings.
    • October 3, 2019
    • October 17, 2019
  • The Board approved the request for an increased modified allowable growth for submission to the School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) in the amount of $3,258,815 for the special education deficit for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • The Board approved the request for increased modified allowable growth for submission to the School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) not to exceed $337,953 for LEP instruction costs in excess of funding for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • The Board approved all three concurrent boundary resolutions with Prairie City-Monroe,  Bondurant-Farrar, and Des Moines.

Presentations/Discussions:

  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, shared his monthly update
  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Southeast Polk Superintendent, shared a Condition of the District report. 
  • The board discussed the possibility of continuing the Urban Education Network associate membership for the 2020-2021 school year. 
  • Dr. JoEllen Latham, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, reviewed the August Professional Learning and provided a preview of the September Professional Learning to be presented. 
  • Joseph Horton, Associate Superintendent, provided an update on enrollment. 
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, provided an update about the Certified Annual Report.
