Happy Holidays Southeast Polk families,

The school year is flying by and almost ½ way over. The holidays and break are just a week away! With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and just everyday life, I wanted to send a few reminders and tips about the Food & Nutrition Department and changes that began this year.

  1. Meal Eligibility Applications – It’s never too late to apply! If you haven’t applied already or have had a change in income/family structure and were denied before- please apply. I encourage you to apply even if you feel you may not qualify. It takes just a few minutes. Apply online through SchoolCafe! (download the app SchoolCafe or go to schoolcafe.com) Step by step instructions as well as a short video can be found here. You will be automatically notified when applying online of your child(ren)’s meal eligibility after you hit submit.
  2. SchoolCafe- This is the new website/app for the Food & Nutrition Services Department. You can NO longer access account history through your Campus Portal. By setting up an account with SchoolCafe you are able to see and do all of these:
  • Track child(ren)’s purchase history
  • Set purchase limits (restrictions)
  • Set low balance alerts
  • Apply for Free or Reduced meals
  • Access your child(ren)’s meal eligibility approval letter at anytime (Instructions on how is linked here)
  • Transfer monies in accounts between students

You can access to SchoolCafe at  www.schoolcafe.com or download the smart phone app in your app store called SchoolCafe. If you haven’t made an account yet, you will need to set up an account with a NEW username and NEW password. This is not the same as your Campus Portal.  Instructions to establish an account and link your child(ren) to the account can be found  hereYour child can also set up their own account in SchoolCafe to have access their balance. Create an account the same way except choice “I’m a student” on the Register page. This is highly recommended for High School students.

  1. Online Meal Payments – Meal payments continue to be through  RamMall(southeastpolk.org -> Quicklinks ->RamMall -> Meal Payments). No payments are taken through SchoolCafe.  If you made online payments before, you are able to use your same log-in and password as you have before. If you have not, you will need to make an account. Once logged in, you will need your child(ren)’s school ID# (found on your Campus Portal) and last name to link their SEP meal account to the payment system.  Step by step instructions can be found  here.
  2. NEW ONLINE PAYMENT FEATUREAUTO-REPLENISHMENT – You are now able to set payments to auto-replenish to your child(ren)’s account once it reaches a balance of your choice.  Learn more about auto-replenishment  here. You can now also set low-balance reminders from RevTrak! Note there is up to a 30-minute delay now from the time you place a payment on an account until it reaches your child(ren)’s account. We will not allow charges (a la carte, double entrée, extra milk, etc) to accounts unless there is sufficient funds in the account.
  3. Low-balance reminders –Emails are being sent most days from our new nutrition software. This message goes out typically between 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. and comes from our nutrition@southeastpolk.org email. Your are encouraged to sent up additional account balance reminders through our online payment system (RamMall) and SchoolCafe.
  4. Meal Charge policy – A new SEP Board of Education meal charge policy was adopted last year. (Board policy 711-04 Meal Charges) Negative balance charge limits are -$12.50 for grades 6 – 12 and -$15.00 for grades PK – 5. No student will ever be denied a lunch no matter the account balance. If a student’s meal account balance reaches $0.00 or less, students will not be able to purchase a la carte, double entrees, extra milk (milk with a lunch brought from home) or any extra items.
  5. Menus – The daily menu can be found on the SEP homepage under Quick Links or you can download the Nutrislice app for your smart device.
  6. Join us for lunch- We encourage you to join your child for lunch. We ask that you call the school office by 9 a.m. to notify the kitchen of your attendance. All parent/visitor meals will be charged to their SEP child’s meal account. There must be sufficient funds in the child’s account to cover the adult meal. Payments can be made to the office upon arrival. Adult lunches are $3.65. Your child’s account must have sufficient funds or you can make a payment in the office when you arrive. Without sufficient funds, adults/parents are not able to eat with students. (Board policy 711-04 Meal Charges)
