Southeast Polk Junior High will be using this article to share information regarding the registration process over the course of the spring semester.  If any questions come up and you need further information regarding the transition process from 6th to 7th grade or 7th to 8th grade, feel free to contact the SEP junior High Main Office at 515-967-5509.

6th to 7th Grade Transition for the 2020-2021 School Year

For those students who would like to be considered as PEOPEL helpers email Mr. Hardie at john.hardie@southeastpolk.org and answer the following:

  1. Why you would like to be considered as a peer helper.
  2. Explain what kind of experiences you have had with special needs students.

Summer of 2020 transition opportunities for 6th to 7th grade students-

  • Schedules open on Campus Monday, July 13th.
  • July 15th, 16th and 17th- Mission Transition (specific information will be shared in May).
  • August 3rd and 5th Open House- 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. both days. Students can take school pictures, etc.; (Lifetouch SEP JR High Picture flyer will be linked here)
  • During the week of August 17th- Orientation for 7th Graders 6:00-8:00 pm. Specific date will be shared at a later date. There is a set schedule to follow this evening.

7th to 8th Grade Transition for the 2020-2021 School Year

  • During the week of August 17th (specific date will be shared at a later date) 8th Grade teachers will be available for students and families to come and “meet and greet” in the classrooms-  4:00-6:00 p.m. There is no set schedule this evening.

Chorus and Band Additional Information for the 2020-2021 School Year (as of 1/22/20)

If students want to participate in band and choir they can do the following-

  • Sign up for band opposite of physical education.
  • Notify any of the following people to let them know that the student is interested in chorus and band (email or phone call).
    • Mr. Cravero (Junior High Chorus Teacher)
    • Mike Dailey (Junior High Principal)
    • Kristin Joy (Spring Creek Band Teacher)
    • Laura Brill (Spring Creek Music Teacher)

Once a staff member is notified we will put the student’s name on a list.  The students on this list will have the opportunity to do chorus during flex class at SEP Junior High.

Here is additional information that applies to before and after school opportunities for 7th and 8th-grade students interested in Band and Chorus.

Jazz Band for 7th Grade- Wednesday after school- 3:00-4:00
     Last Week of October to the end of February
Jazz Band for 8th Grade- Tuesday and Thursday before school- 6:40-7:25 a.m.
     Last Week of October to the end of February
Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Clarinet Choir- there will be a signup opportunity working with Ms. Randall. Sign-ups typically occur during the 3rd quarter and begin after Spring Break
7th and 8th Grade Mixed Choir- Monday and Friday 6:45-7:25 a.m.
Show Choir (Sudden Impulse)- Monday and Thursday  3:00-5:00 p.m.

Auditions for show choir will occur the first full week of school for incoming 7th and 8th grade students.  Feel free to contact Mr. Cravero with any questions regarding Junior High chorus classes or activities.
