Southeast Polk’s Return to Learn Plan

At the August 6th Southeast Polk School Board Meeting, the Board of Directors approved the Return To Learn Plan and determined that all students will start the academic year in a Hybrid 2 learning model for the first two weeks of school, August 24th thru September 4th.

On August 28, Dr. Halupnik sent out a message to all SEP staff and families. It stated that over the course of this first week of school, we observed our schools and systems in operation and read and listened to feedback from stakeholders all across our district.  We also analyzed the health and safety data that was available to us at the time and responded to situations involving COVID-19.

After much thought about how to best proceed with school at that point, the decision was made to continue to operate in the Hybrid 2 A/B model at all levels extending until September 18th. If you had chosen the Remote (All Online) model, you continue on that learning path.

By acting on this and communicating it in August, our hope was to give families some extra time to make necessary plans.  We will continue to monitor our data over the course of the next few weeks so that we can make informed decisions moving forward and adjust if necessary. As we have seen so far with the pandemic, flexibility is a requirement.

All families continue to have the option of choosing Remote (All Online) learning. If you would like to make the change to Remote (All Online), please contact your building principal.

  • Students/Families may choose to learn 100% remotely
  • All others learn in-person

Hybrid #2:
Students learn both in-person and remotely

  • Students/Families may choose to learn 100% remotely
  • All others will learn in an A/B Schedule – alternating days with some students learning in-person and others remotely
    • Monday, Thursday, and every other Wednesday
    • Tuesday, Friday, and every other Wednesday

While in the Hybrid 2 learning model, students will attend based on either a “Schedule A” or “Schedule B”. Students with a last name that begins with the letters A-K will be assigned to “Schedule A”.   Students with a last name that begins with the letters L-Z will be assigned to “Schedule B”.

We recognize that some students may reside in a household with more than one last name. These students were placed in a schedule based on the last name of the oldest student (student enrolled in the lowest grade, K-12) in the household. The schedules are provided in the links below:

For information about the “Schedule A” click here: Schedule A .
