I reviewed the Southeast Polk Return to Learn Plan. What option are we planning to use?
The District will make a formal recommendation at the August 6th Board of Directors meeting.
Could the learning model change during the school year?
Our Return to Learn Plan includes a flexible approach, understanding that we may start the school year with one instructional schedule and, as information becomes available about health and safety, we may transition to a different model.
What is the first day of school?
The first day of school for K – 12th grade is the previously Board approved start date of August 24, 2020.
The first day of school for Preschool is the previously Board approved start date of Sept. 8, 2020.
My student rides the bus. How will that work this year?
We are looking at various transportation considerations in each one of our models. We will adjust our ideas and provide information once decisions are made.
What happens if there’s a COVID-19 diagnosis in a school building?
If a Southeast Polk student or employee is diagnosed with COVID-19, the district will work with local health officials to determine the appropriate next steps. Further specific guidance on this will be provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Department of Education at the beginning of August.
How do these plans impact extracurricular activities?
Extracurricular activities may take place based on guidance from several state and local agencies, including the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa High School Athletics Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, and the Central Iowa Metropolitan League.
How will lunch be served? Can students still bring their own lunches?
We will socially distance lunchrooms/repurposed lunch areas, and at the same time, students will eat lunch in their classrooms. Yes, students will be able to bring their own lunches. However, outside food like pizza parties or birthday snacks will no longer be allowed into the buildings.

When will high school student schedules be released?
The high school schedules will be available on July 27th.
If my child forgets to bring a face mask to school, will one be provided for them to wear?
The district will provide one cloth face covering to each student. The district will also have a supply of disposable face coverings on hand in the event that a student forgets to bring one to school.
The requirement of face coverings is curious to me, and I have several questions. Who will be providing the face coverings?
