My name is Jake Bartels, and I am the Associate Principal and Athletics Director at Southeast Polk Junior High. Prior to coming to the junior high I taught and coached at Southeast Polk High School, nine years as a social studies teacher and one year as an instructional coach. I am a 1996 graduate of Southeast Polk and currently reside in Runnells with my wife Christy, a kindergarten teacher at Clay Elementary, and my two kids Emmett and Elyse. My undergraduate work was completed at the University of Northern Iowa and my master’s with Iowa State University.
I believe that relationships are the cornerstone to a quality educational experience for all involved and I look forward to growing these relationships. My goal is to help provide a high-quality educational experience where all students are performing at a high level. The junior high experience is pivotal to developing students who can experience success at college, career and civic life. I am truly grateful to work in a great school district and I look forward to working with students, parents and school staff.
My duties at the junior high are in two main areas, instruction and activities. Being an instructional leader who provides support for effective teaching and learning is my main focus. I am also the activities director and I oversee all junior high activities and athletics.
