Southeast Polk Hosts 37th Annual Iowa Industrial Technology Expo

On Friday, May 9, 2025, Southeast Polk High School proudly hosted the 37th Annual Iowa Industrial Technology Expo. Thirty-six schools from across the state participated, showcasing more than 320 student projects across 29 categories, including woodworking, welding, photography, and computer graphics.

According to Southeast Polk educator and Expo organizer Brett Rickabaugh, this year marked the highest participation since before 2020.

The Expo offers students a unique opportunity to display the skills and projects they’ve developed throughout the school year. It also serves as a connection between students, educators, and local businesses, highlighting the value of career and technical education. During the event, students engaged in hands-on contests, visited with local tech companies during a mini career fair, and received valuable feedback from judges.

In addition to recognition through ribbons and medals, the Expo also supports students in tangible ways. The East Polk Rotary awarded five scholarships totaling $3,500, and many students walked away with job offers, tool giveaways, company swag, and even free food — making it a rewarding day all around.

Events like this are essential in encouraging the next generation of Iowa’s skilled workforce and providing students with a glimpse into future career opportunities in the technology and industrial fields.

Thanks to everyone for making this event happen every year!
