Superintendent Halupnik to Retire at End of School Year: Board Accepts
Board Accepts Superintendent’s Intent to Retire at End of 2025-2026 School Year
At the November 6, 2025, board meeting, the Southeast Polk Board of Education accepted Superintendent Dr. Dirk Halupnik’s letter of intent to retire at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. His retirement will be effective June 30, 2026.

Strong Leadership for 11 Years
Dr. Halupnik has served the Southeast Polk Community School District for 11 years, providing strong leadership that has helped shape and strengthen the district. Under his tenure, Southeast Polk students, staff, and programs have earned state and national recognition in academics, athletics, and fine arts. He has expanded learning opportunities beyond the classroom and led significant facility improvements to support enrollment growth, enhance safety, and promote student success. The district has also strengthened its financial position, lowering the tax rate while maintaining fiscal stability.
His dedication to students, staff, and families has left a meaningful and lasting impact on the Southeast Polk community.
Next Steps
With Dr. Halupnik’s early notice, the Board will have ample time to conduct a thorough search for the district’s next superintendent. A hiring timeline and process will be developed after new board members are inducted at the November 20, 2025, meeting. The Board is committed to transparency throughout the search and will keep families, staff, and community members informed as information becomes available.
