High School Programs

Supporting the education of Southeast Polk High Schoolers

At Southeast Polk Community School District, our high schoolers receive opportunities to be a part of programs that will help shape not only their academic experience, but their futures as well. Our guidance counselors assist students with programs such as the National Honor Society, Silver Cord, and The Harbor.

Penny Burnett Chapter of the National Honors Society at Southeast Polk High School

The National Honor Society was founded to recognize a combination of SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP, SERVICE, and CHARACTER. It is more than simply an honorary academic society as it measures the accomplishments of the total person.

Our NHS group sponsors a blood drive in October and April each year as our main service project. Members are expected to perform individual service projects each semester that total a minimum of 3 hours each semester.

Students with a weighted grade point average of 3.5 are eligible to apply. Specific dates will be included in the email sent to eligible students each semester

A District Committed to Community Service

The purpose of the Southeast Polk Silver Cord Program is to instill within students the importance of community service, and encourage students to be accountable for investing in their own education and in their community on a regular basis during their school years.

The Silver Cord Program recognizes students for their community service during their high school years. Students are recognized for 150 hours. Students volunteering 150 hours by April 30 of their senior year will have the distinct honor of wearing a silver cord during their graduation ceremony. This is a self-directed program. The student is responsible for turning in all of their hours.
