Today we recognize Melba Murken, known all over Iowa for starting the first SEP drill team in 1965, a tradition that remains strong even today! The RhythAMetteS started with just 11 women and has since grown to over 50 dancers who have earned national titles. Melba started teaching Jr. High-Sr. High girls PE in 1965, retiring in 1998 after 33 years of service. She was inducted into the SEP Hall of Honor in 2019. Other awards she's earned through the years include:
*Jr. Women’s Club 1995 Friend of Education Award Winner
*1995 Director of the Year and Drill Team Directors of America Lifetime Honorary Member
*Iowa State Drill Team Directors of America Lifetime Achievement Honoree
*1st State Drill Team Competition organizer and director in 1976 with 13 teams in attendance.

Thank you Melba for leading the way at SEP! #SEPLead
