#1SEP staff leading the way in conservation education!🌱
✨️SEP High School Biology & Environmental Science teacher Danielle Hoenig led a breakout session titled “Beyond the Classroom: Strategies for Meaningful Outdoor Learning Experiences” at the Iowa Conservation Education ...Coalition’s (ICEC) Winter Workshop 2026, held at the Kirkwood Community College Horticulture Building. She shared practical, engaging strategies to help educators connect students with authentic outdoor learning opportunities that bring science to life. 🫶
✨️Jim Pifer, our PK-12 Science Coordinator and Iowa Conservation Education Coalition board member, assisted in planning and organizing the event. The workshop brought together classroom teachers and environmental educators from across Iowa to explore the power of collaboration and place-based environmental education. Participants left with innovative strategies for integrating local environmental themes into everyday teaching.
We’re incredibly proud of our SEP staff who not only attend professional learning opportunities but also lead them. Their expertise continues to make an impact far beyond our district. 🖤💛

Led by FCCLA Advisor and High School Family and Consumer Sciences Educator Aimee Marasco, they represented our school with professionalism, confidence, and pride!🖤💛

📚️It's Read Across America Day! And today atSEP Four Mile Elementary, they had special guest readers, including Mr. Mohning, Four Mile's principal from 2009-2021, and many more! The day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited ...about reading and having our school leadership read to our #1SEP students seems like the perfect way to make that happen! What was your favorite book in elementary school? Where the Wild Things Are? Charlotte's Web? Comment below! #SuccessForEveryChild #ReadingIsFun!
🎉Congratulations to these outstanding #1SEP High School students who have earned a spot on the DMACC Fall 2025 President's and Dean's lists! 🙌
Through our strong partnership with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), these students aren't just taking college classes, ...they're thriving in real college coursework while still in high school. Because of this opportunity, they're:
