We’re excited to welcome Dr. Justin Colbert back home to Southeast Polk as our next Deputy Superintendent, beginning July 1, 2026!

A proud #1SEP graduate, Dr. Colbert began his teaching career right here at Southeast Polk, teaching High School U.S. History/AP U.S. History and coaching ...football and boys' track. Since then, he has built an impressive career in educational leadership, most recently serving as principal of Iowa City Liberty High School, where he helped elevate student success and school performance.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Colbert back to Southeast Polk as our next Deputy Superintendent. He stood out among an exceptionally strong pool of candidates for his ability to build meaningful relationships, his depth of leadership experience, and his systems-thinking approach. Just as important is his deep connection to and passion for Southeast Polk,” shared incoming Superintendent Dr. Tony Aylsworth.

A relationship-driven leader with a passion for serving others, Dr. Colbert brings a strong track record of improving both student outcomes and school culture. We are thrilled to have him return to #1SEP in this important role!
