Highlights from the November 7, 2019, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • Board member Gary Fischer was selected as the IASB Delegate Assembly Representative. 

Presentations/Discussions:

  • Stephen Pettit, High School Principal, shared a presentation on the high school ACT data
  • Stephen Pettit, High School Principal, shared information and updates in regards to the 2020-2021 high school registration guide including the addition of a personal finance class.
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, presented a list of capital projects continued from Phase V for the Board to consider.
  • Joseph Horton, Associate Superintendent, provided an update on enrollment. The district enrollment has increased by 94.75 FTEs.
  • Joseph Horton, Associate Superintendent, discussed the early retirement plan administration would like to offer eligible employees. 
  • Dr. JoEllen Latham, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, shared information on the release of the results of the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). 
  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, reported that the District will be purchasing 7 buses rather than the typical 3-4. The acceleration of the replacement of older school buses is made possible with the extension and increase in PPEL beginning fiscal year 2021. Transportation Director, Dan Schultz, also discussed additional safety requirements on buses including seat belts.
