Dear Mitchellville Elementary Families,

I am thrilled to be starting year two as the Mitchellville Elementary Principal. Together the staff and I have been diligently working to prepare for the return of students.

I believe summer has a way of letting us know it is coming to an end. Whether it is the back to school shopping trips, the end of summer sports, the last day signs posted at the pool, or maybe it’s the brisk morning air. Whatever signs you observe, embrace them, because we are ready for kids to return. Their smiles, confidence, questions, and overall curiosity inspire me and this staff to give them all that we have to ensure a safe and challenging environment for them to grow.

My wife, Amanda, and I have two daughters Carly and Lauren. Amanda will be starting her 15th year teaching PE at Southeast Polk. Carly is entering 3rd grade and Lou will begin Kindergarten. Ready or not we will be juggling the life of an administrator, teacher, softball coach, and our most important role, parents. Our bedtime routines have started and our increased time reading with our girls is underway.

As parents, take time to enjoy all of your son(s)/daughter(s) activities. Help prepare them for the upcoming school year with routines that promote success. I would encourage you to read each night and ask them what they are learning. This year we will really emphasize focussing on TIC (Things I can Control.) My words, my actions, my thoughts, my attitude, my effort, etc. We believe having a good attitude, keeping things in perspective, and giving your best effort are all choices each of us can make.

I hope to see you all at Back to School Night from 4:00-6:00 on Tuesday, August 21st.

Sincerely,
Blake Kielman
Mitchellville Elementary Principal
