Dear Mitchellville Elementary Families,

I am excited to get all of the kids back to school in just a few short weeks. Mitchellville Elementary staff is looking forward to working with families to provide a first-class educational experience. Together the staff and I have been working extremely hard to prepare for this school year. Students will be loved, supported, and challenged.

I believe that summer provides time for teachers to reflect on accomplishments, relax with family/friends, and engage in professional learning. Teachers spend countless hours learning new material, researching best practices, and creating lessons that are authentic and engaging. Mitchellville Elementary teachers and staff are passionate and committed to pursuing their best. More importantly, they are relentless about helping students become their best.

My wife, Amanda, and I have two daughters Carly and Lauren. Amanda will start her 16th year teaching PE at Southeast Polk. Carly is entering 4th grade and Lou will be in 1st Grade. Bringing my girls to M’Ville is one of the best decisions we have made as parents.

As parents, take time to enjoy all of your kids’ activities and summertime together. Make sure to help prepare them for the school by setting up routines that will help them succeed. I would encourage you to read every night and ask them what they are learning, or practice math facts.

This year we will learn a lot about the habits of success and finding routines that work. I am looking forward to Back to School Night. (Aug. 20th) 4-6pm.

Sincerely,

Blake Kielman
Mitchellville Elementary Principal
