Last May we told you about when Polk County Supervisors Tom Hockensmith and Steve Van Oort and Community Grant Administrator Lisa Moody-Tunks presented a $50,000 check towards Delaware’s new playground equipment here. On Tuesday, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for all of the new equipment!

This project was a true collaborative effort between the Polk County Community Grant Committee, Ric Powell SEP Board Member, Delaware PTA and the Delaware students.  Together they raised the funds necessary to get Delaware Elementary updated playground equipment.

“The Southeast Polk Education Foundation is thankful for the outstanding work Delaware PTA members and School Board Member, Ric Powell have done over the past four years to build this wonderful playground for the students of Delaware Elementary. This is truly a community collaboration, and wouldn’t have been possible without Supervisor’s Hockensmith and Van Oort, and Lisa Moody-Tunks at Polk County. We are grateful to them for their continued support of the students, staff and families in the Southeast Polk School District. This playground is a bright, fun and safe space for students to play now and for years to come and we are honored that we could play a small role in bringing it to Delaware Elementary,” shared Maggie Crabb, Southeast Polk Education Foundation President.
The ribbon-cutting was a wonderful event. Perfect weather, upbeat music, familiar faces and ice cream treats – kids of all ages had a great time!
Chelsea Clark, Delaware Principal, shared, “I took a moment to step back and observe our Delaware students playing on the equipment and I was overwhelmed with gratitude and beyond thankful to those that made this all possible.  Our staff, students, and families were there to commemorate the opening of our playground, but it was more than that.  It was a time for us to be together, to celebrate and enjoy time with our community.”
Thanks again to everyone who helped make this possible!  #1SEP
