Mitchellville Elementary is putting their Leader In Me methodology in action!

Leader in Me is an evidence-based, comprehensive model that builds leadership and life skills in students, creates a high-trust school culture, and lays the foundation for sustained academic achievement.

Mitchellville survey results indicated that public speaking was an area of growth. The ‘Ville kicked their creativity into action, developing several opportunities to present and speak to others and in public. And the Ram Cafe was created!

Students had to apply for and interview to get specific positions including Manager, Order Taker, Drink Maker and Menu Creator. The Manager had to make sure orders were being taken care of and the freewill money donations were properly handled. The Menu Creator used Canva software and clip art to create and print menus. The Order Takers had to talk to “clients” to practice communicating effectively while taking orders and money to relay to the Drink Makers and manager. What an incredible real-world experience for these students!

Mr. K (Principal Blake Kielman) shared, “This place was rocking this morning!  I just sat back and smiled at how great this is for our kids.”

Later in the season, the Cafe will be open to the public – Look for info on when like at the Mitchellville Tree Festival, Grandparents Day and more!  The freewill donations raised will go to a Mitchellville family who is fighting leukemia.
