A huge thank you to everyone who is helping Four Mile upgrade its playground:

Polk County, Prairie Meadows, Southeast Polk Education Foundation, Four Mile PTA,  SEP Buildings and Grounds and Board Member Ric Powell for writing the grant!

On April 19, 2023, at a very special and energetic assembly, Four Mile students and staff accepted over $130,000 to help pay for new playground equipment and saw this new equipment for the first time. It was very well received!  Check it out here:

A Brief History of Four Mile’s Playground Improvements

  • Last year, the Four Mile PTA funded a relocation and demolition project in which old equipment east of the shed was removed and the swings and glider rockers were relocated to the pea gravel area just outside the PE doors.
  • Additionally, last spring the PTA funded an additional GaGa Ball pit, an area on our playground that is used regularly!
  • During this school year, Four Mile has added a small developmental play area for preschool and kindergarten students. It includes balance equipment and a small playhouse for imaginative play. This area was primarily funded by Prairie Meadows and the remaining costs were covered by Four Mile’s general budget
  • In the near future, PTA is paying to resurface the new Gaga Ball with turf so the concrete is covered. This is based on student feedback.
  • Also this year, PTA members and Principal Tammy Steenhoek has written two more grant proposals that are still pending. If they get approved, Four Mile will be adding a sensory wall and more all-weather surfacing below our north swings.
  • The new large structure and ground surfacing will be coming to Four Mile Elementary this upcoming summer!

Again, thanks to all who continue to support our students!  By upgrading our playground equipment, we are able to provide safe, modern and inviting facilities for our students to get exercise.
