Perfect weather, Sydney Potter’s home run and 2 W’s made just put the exclamation point on a wonderful celebration of the newly renovated softball stadium! Congratulations Rams!

Local dignitaries and Southeast Polk fans and alumni helped celebrate the Grand Re-opening of the Southeast Polk Rams Softball Stadium at the 2023 Season Opener on May 22, 2023.

Just prior to the first varsity game of the 2023 softball season, with Southeast Polk hosting Urbandale, SEP leadership including past and present school board members, and IGHSAU Executive Director Jean Berger and Associate Director Jason Eslinger, recognized the upgrades to the new and improved softball complex with a fun field ceremony, including School Board President, Lori Slings, throwing out the first pitch! The first 100 fans received free SEP Ram drawstring tote bags and stickers.

This has been a fun process – to start with some ideas and dreams and the input of a lot of people – and then watch all of those things come to life.  I think we are all just so excited for our girls to be able to compete in this beautiful facility,” shared Southeast Polk Superintendent Dr. Dirk Halupnik during his opening remarks.

The much-needed renovated Ram Softball Field was made possible thanks to the incredible support of our community and the voter-approved 2020 Referendum. The renovations feature:

  • new all-weather turf infield and outfield
  • new team dugouts
  • new bullpens for both teams
  • new press box
  • new speakers
  • updated netting throughout the complex
  • new fencing
  • new lights over the field
  • additional storage
  • upgraded front entrance/ticket booth and restrooms

The field has been under renovation since July 25, 2022, with the goal of improving the overall experience for both players and spectators and being ready for today, Opening Day 2023.

SEP Activities Director, Jayson Campbell, added, “We want to say a special thank you to RDG Architects for designing such a fantastic facility and to all of the contractors who were involved in constructing it.  This is something that the community can really be proud of and we look forward to watching the success of the Rams here for years to come.”

Thanks to everyone for helping us start this season and the new and improved stadium off on the right foot!
