Altoona Police Department Training at SEP Middle School July 29 and 31
The Altoona Police Department, in collaboration with Altoona Fire and EMS, will conduct active threat training exercises on Tuesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. The training will take place at the Sam Wise Youth Complex North Lot and the entire campus of the Southeast Polk Middle School.
During these exercises, you may hear sirens and simulated gunfire and observe officers, fire, and EMS personnel simulating an emergency response to and from the school. Roads and parking lot entrances will be blocked off with barricades, and POLICE TRAINING IN PROGRESS signs will be displayed.
Exercises such as this are a critical component of the Altoona Police Department’s commitment to ensure the safety and security of our community. This proactive training strengthens our ability to protect our schools, residents, and visitors, while fostering an environment where Altoona is a choice to live, work, play, and grow.
We value our ongoing relationship with the Altoona Police, Fire, and EMS Departments in maintaining community safety. We also appreciate our city leadership’s support and participation in these preparedness efforts.
