DFS Awards Over $235,000 in Scholarships
The 25th Annual Dollars For Scholars (DFS) Scholarship Award Night was a very special event! In less than an hour, 240 Southeast Polk 2026 Seniors received 310 scholarships totaling over $235,000!
The scholarships are made possible through the generosity of community members, local businesses, memorial funds, school staff, and supporters who continue to invest in students’ futures.
The evening marked a major milestone for the organization: 25 years of supporting Southeast Polk students. Since its founding in 2001, Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to graduating seniors.
One of the most memorable moments of the night came when additional donations from approximately 30 supporters in attendance made it possible to award three more scholarships on the spot. It was a meaningful example of how every contribution, large or small, can make a direct difference in the lives of our students.
The organization’s mission remains clear: every student matters, and every contribution counts.
The district extends its gratitude to the Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars Board for organizing the event and for its continued dedication to students and families. Special recognition also goes to founding members Roger Mahnke and Lois Skinner, who were present to celebrate the organization’s 25th anniversary.
Additional thanks go to Southeast Polk High School leadership, Stephen Pettit, Scott Belger, and Robin Llewellyn. Also, a huge shout-out to photographer Mitch Stubbs for capturing a photo of every winner with their contributor. Copies of those photos will be shared soon.
