Dr. Tony Aylsworth Begins as Southeast Polk’s New Superintendent
Dr. Tony Aylsworth has officially begun serving as Superintendent of Southeast Polk Community School District, stepping into the role the way he has throughout his career: by starting close to the ground.
In his first days on the job, Aylsworth has already noted the pride evident across the district’s classrooms, programs, and community.
“I spent my first years as a teacher and coach, and every role since has grown from the same instinct — get to know the people and place before making decisions about either,” Aylsworth says. “That’s how I intend to begin here, too.”
He is calling his approach Together, Forward: listening first, then building on what is heard. As part of that effort, he’ll spend time in schools, classrooms, and offices over the coming months, and is hosting a series of informal Community Conversations, open to any family, staff, or community member who wants to introduce themselves and share their perspective. Sessions are listed below.
Upcoming Community Conversations
Session Date & Time Location:
- Session 1 Friday, July 17 — 8:00 AM Best Day Coffee, Altoona
- Session 2 Monday, July 20 — 6:00 PM Pleasant Hill Public Library
- Session 3 Thursday, July 23 — 8:00 AM Runnells Community Library
- Session 4 Thursday, July 23 — 5:30 PM Mitchellville Public Library
“I invite you to stop by, introduce yourself, and share what you think I should know about our schools and community,” Aylsworth says. “It will help shape how we move forward together.”
