Middle School Botany Club Raises $2000

Middle School Botany Blossoms

The Southeast Polk Middle School Botany Club, made up of 11 dedicated students, meets once a week for 20 minutes—but the impact of their work has reached far beyond that short time together. Throughout the year, students explored the world of plants—learning how they grow, what they need to thrive, and how to propagate new plants.

With that knowledge (and a lot of care), the club successfully grew a wide variety of plants. Their efforts were further strengthened by generous donations from community members, which helped expand their collection and learning opportunities.

This spring, the club decided to take a leap and host a plant sale during Spring Parent Teacher Conferences.

Going into the event, expectations were modest—but hope was high.

The result? An incredible $2,000 raised.

This overwhelming support made it possible for the Botany Club to give back in meaningful ways. Students took the lead in deciding how to use the funds, choosing to donate $500 to Blank Children’s Hospital to support children and families in our community.

The remaining funds are being used to enhance the Middle School’s environment and sustain the club’s future. New plant stands and greenery will soon brighten each wing of the middle school, while additional supplies—such as soil, tools, and plant food—will help the club continue to grow.

More than anything, this experience has highlighted the generosity of the Southeast Polk community and the passion of students who turned a simple interest into something impactful.

Plant people really are happy people. 🌱

Thank you to everyone who supported the Botany Club and helped grow something truly meaningful.
